Wallpaper Fun-damentals

New to the world of wallpaper? Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. Check out a few of our most frequently asked questions below.

What are single rolls, double rolls, and bolts?

Wallpaper is commonly priced by the single roll but is usually sold in double roll or bolt increments (these are interchangeable phrases), because wallpapers are printed in double rolls. If you order 4 single rolls of wallpaper, for example, you’d receive 2 bolts (or double rolls).

What do you mean when you refer to a “pattern match”?

The pattern match of wallpapers is incredibly important - it’s what creates a seamless look across an entire wall. There are several different match types. A random match is the easiest to work with, and indicates that each strip of wallpaper can be hung without worrying about matching the pattern at the seams. A straight match matches across the wallpaper, but don’t be intimidated! You’ll easily be able to tell a straight match when you lay two strips together. A drop match wallpaper has a design that matches up across strips both vertically and horizontally. There are multiple types of drop matches (most are half-drop or a quarter drop). This simply means that the pattern will match up with a different spot in the design for the next strip. You can think of a half drop as half of a straight drop because it will match the same spot in the design every other strip. Both drop and straight matches will cause some extra waste as you will need to remove more excess from the top. Patterns with a matches, 24" or more, may require you to buy additional wallpaper rolls to complete the project.

What is the difference between prepasted wallpaper and unpasted wallpaper?

Pre-pasted wallpaper already has glue on the back, and its adhesive properties are activated when you apply water to the paste. Unpasted wallpaper requires adhesive to be applied in order to stick to the wall.

When will I receive my wallpaper order?

Nearly all of our wallpaper is custom-ordered (thought we do stock several peel and stick options). If we’re ordering from a local designer or distributor, orders typically take 5 to 7 days to arrive. If your paper is imported from overseas, the lead time would be approximately 10 to 14 days. We also have the ability to print 100% custom wallpaper. Those orders will arrive in approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
